Getting to know Kimberley Lee Weddings
Elegant, Candid, Emotion
What inspired you to become a photographer?
I grew up as a pretty shy and artsy kid. I was either making cubby houses with my friends, dreaming up imaginary worlds of magic, dragons and ninja-princesses, or chasing ladybugs (and my very grumpy dog) around the garden for that perfect photo to show Mum and Dad. An old camera in one hand and a stick that I brandished as a sword to keep the evil ogres away, was probably the best way to describe me.
Since then, not much has changed! I still have that crazy wild imagination, dreaming up the perfect wedding photo or family portrait, exploring all across for the perfect photoshoot locations. But now, it’s a camera in both hands, as I’m fully dedicated to capturing those memorable photos that you and your loved ones will cherish forever.
Can you tell us about the most memorable wedding you have captured?
My favourite weddings are always the ones with the wedding couple’s personal touch and personalities shining through in all the little details.
One of my favourite weddings had a beautiful letter written from the bride’s daughter to her mother, a ‘FINALLY’ printed across her denim jacket for the reception, a cheeky cake topper for the couple’s favourite cake (red velvet and cream cheese frosting!), and plenty of activities for their wedding guests!
How would you describe your signature photographic style?
My photographic style timelessly captures those ‘big feeling’ moments. I look at the bigger scene, but I also looks at the details and make sure that those are included seamlessly into your story.
What advice can you give couples when they are choosing someone to capture their special day?
Choose a photographer who can also be your friend.
As a wedding photographer, only half of my job is documenting your wedding day. I’m there from the time you get ready, right until the end of your reception! Nobody else will be following you around that closely on your wedding day!
It’s so important that your photographer is able to get along with your wedding party as well. I do a lot of talking and organising with your guests when the moments arise, to make sure that we can create the most magical photos for you to cherish.
What is your favourite photo of all time?
A Reuters photographer captured a newlywed couple walking through Grand Central in New York. They were framed perfectly by the bustle of commuters but were standing still in this sliver of light. It was such an amazing photo, paying tribute to the beauty in the everyday!
