Getting to know Pick of the Bunch

Resourceful, Relational, Reliable

Florals are usually seasonal. What are your favourite blooms for each season?

  • For Spring and Summer, my favourite blooms are Lisianthus, Ranunculi, Scabiosa and Hydrangea.
  • For Autumn and Winter, Kale, Dahlia and Stocks are my favourites.

What is your personal favourite bouquet combination and why?

  • A combination of Lisianthus, Sims, Sweet William and Disbuds blend beautifully to bring a softness to a hand-tied bouquet.
  • For a more unstructured look, I’d choose Orchids, Peonies, Sims, Scabiosa, and Statice.

When planning florals for their wedding, what do couples need to consider?

I help couples consider florals to match their bridal party dresses and suits, the colour theme, and the overall finished look. Florals should enhance the style and colour theme of the bridal party and wedding venue setting. Couples also need to consider using the ceremony space to maximise the floral styling.

Do you have any tips for a bride when choosing her bouquet for optimal photographic appeal?

Yes! The design of the bride’s dress will influence the style, colour and size of her bouquet. The bouquet should complement the gown and add to the impact of her overall look. For example, I wouldn’t use all-white flowers and filler for a laced gown. However, a good photographer will be able to bring out the best of her dress and the bouquet.

Wendy’s top tips for beautiful florals and a smooth wedding day…

  • Organise all suppliers well in advance.
  • Provide as much information about the day/venue, and images as possible, so we understand the full vision of the day.
  • I send a checklist and price guide after first contact. When it is returned, we arrange a face-to-face consultation. Good communication is essential to a memorable outcome.
  • To help manage the couple’s budget, I offer three price ranges to suit their budget/floral vision.
  • My best tip is to double the flower spend value by re-using ceremony flowers at the reception. A family member can be organised to help with this, and the couple get maximum value for money and great visual impact.
  • In terms of floral trends, currently there is demand for unstructured, free-form style of bouquets.

Wendy’s flowers are just textured and gorgeous! Thank you for joining our vendor community, Wendy!
