Getting to know New Black Studios

Fun, Not Awkward, Real

What inspired you to become photographers/ videographers?

We loved photography and we’re really good at it. Creatives at heart, we gave up our well-paying corporate jobs to live our dream careers. We then were given the opportunity to capture some weddings and soon discovered this suited our passion for photojournalistic photography and basically found our purpose. 16 years on, we now offer videography as well and have expanded to into a small specialised team.

What do you both love most about being involved in the wedding industry?

Our couples!

Photographers/videographers are probably the ONLY vendors that interact with a couple from their very early wedding planning stages, all the way through ‘til past the wedding when we are delivering imagery, designing albums etc.

We become heavily invested in our couples, experience the ups and downs of the journey, witness the excitement of being there on the actual big day and seeing all their visions come to life, having the privilege of being the one to help them re-live the day with our captured memories, and then also getting to hear about their honeymoons and early married life.

So many couples become life-long friends. It really is an honour.

Can you tell us about the most memorable wedding you have captured?

Probably all our international destination weddings!

The most memorable ones include being flown over to capture a lavish wedding in Santorini, Greece, dealing with hurricane season at a Fiji wedding, being snowed in at a New York wedding and shooting a wedding in magical Hawaii while suffering with (later diagnosed) Pneumonia.

What is your favourite moment to capture on a couple’s wedding day and why?

The ceremony exit with a huge confetti toss.

The pure joy and natural emotions of the newlywed couple, paired with colourful confetti, are always magical shots!

What trends are you seeing right now in your segment of the wedding industry?

Couples are now restructuring the traditional wedding timelines to prioritise more time spent with family and friends. We no longer go off for hours between ceremony and reception for “official bridal portrait sessions”. We allocate just enough time to grab some amazing shots of the couple and their bridal party, and then maximise time spent with their guests. In our opinion, this leads to much more candid photos of your loved ones that you will cherish so much more in the long run.

We feel so honoured to have Andrew and Sarah join The Busy Bride’s vendor community. Their footage and photos are just stunning!
