Getting to know Simmons Memorable Moments

Relaxed, Vibrant, Natural

What inspired you to become a photographer?

I’ve always loved visual arts and taking landscape photography. In the last five years I have transitioned into portraits and motherhood photography and in the last three years I have been asked to photograph a few weddings, so I am delving into wedding photography.

Can you tell us about the most memorable wedding you have captured?

My first wedding was the most memorable in the sense that I had never even thought about wedding photography, but a previous Model Call client contacted me to capture their special day.

After expanding into wedding photography, my most memorable was as a second shooter in Townsville. We had getting ready photos in the city, a First Look in Queen’s Garden, their ceremony out at the groom’s parents’ farm in Yabulu, bridal photos out at the Breakwater where the family spread the ashes of the groom’s mum and then the reception at Anelay on The Strand. The couple were amazing, their wedding was laid back, everything went according to their plans and the ceremony and reception were just stunning and well-planned.

What is your favourite moment to capture on a couple’s wedding day and why?

My favourite moment so far has been the First Looks. Away from prying eyes, the bride and groom see each other in their wedding attire and gawk at each other. There is just so much emotion with a first look that I try and convince brides and grooms to consider a first look during their wedding day.

What advice can you give couples when they are choosing someone to capture their special day?

Consider every possibility before booking a photographer. Take your time researching the photographers and their background. There might be photographers that have done 300+ weddings and create amazing photographs, but there are also some photographers that haven’t done many weddings that have created amazing photographs in other genres. These photographers may just be getting into wedding photography or haven’t had much luck booking too many weddings but should still be considered.

Book in an engagement session or have a chat with them in person (where possible) and see if you connect with them before ruling them out as they might be your perfect photographer.

What is your favourite photo of all time?

It’s not a wedding photo, but it’s a tie between a pregnant woman on the beach at a beautiful sunset or a pregnant woman who we took photos of in a paddock just before a storm rolled through.

We love supporting growing businesses and passionate entrepreneurs. Thanks for joining our vendor community, Jamie!
