Getting to know Blessings by Kate Bellman

Professionalism, Warmth, Friendly

What is your favourite moment during a couple’s ceremony and why?

I love the moment after the bride arrives, when the couple say ‘hi’ after not seeing each other all day (and possibly overnight). It’s giggly and full of love and awe.

What advice can you give couples when choosing someone to officiate their special day?

Make sure you’re comfortable in the celebrant’s company and ask any, and as many, questions you may have. If a celebrant is hard to get in touch with, maybe they’re not the one for you.

What trends are you seeing right now in your segment of the wedding industry?

I’m not sure if it’s a trend with all celebrants, but I’m personalising most of my ceremonies with symbolic gestures like hand-fasting, sand pouring and unity candle lighting.

Couples often find writing their vows overwhelming. What tips do you have for them?

That I’m here for them to help at any stage. They can give me dot points and I can put it together. I also provide copious examples and a guideline to say 3 to 4 things about their current love and 3 to 4 things about promises for their future together. Their vows can be funny and/or heartfelt.

What is your favourite love quote, poem or song and why?

A reading by A.A. Milne – a conversation between Winnie the Pooh and Piglet.

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind.
“Pooh?” he whispered.
“Yes, Piglet?”
“Nothing,” said Piglet, taking Pooh’s hand.
“I just wanted to be sure of you. We’ll be friends forever, won’t we Pooh?” asked Piglet.
“Even longer,” Pooh answered.
“If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.”

To me, this is a perfect representation of love and friendship – exactly what a marriage should include.

It’s been a pleasure to welcome Kate to our vendor community, and also start to grow our representation of regional Queensland.
